Robert McDaniel Named Interim Director of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center

 

Dr. Robert McDaniel is serving as the Interim Director of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center.  Dr. McDaniel has 30 years of experience in rural/economic development and program administration.  Rob has worked extensively with rural Washington communities on public participation in decision-making, strategic planning, collaborative problem solving, non-profit development and local government education.  He provided leadership for the establishment of the WSU Extension Energy Program and the former Policy Consensus Center.   Dr McDaniel has a B.A. in Sociology/Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University, an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Northern Illinois University, and received his Ph.D. from Washington State University in Applied Anthropology.

As Interim Director for the Center, Dr. McDaniel’s goals are to implement a smooth transition of the Center administration, keep the Center’s current projects on track and to continue developing new Center projects.

The Center is a joint enterprise of WSU and the UW.  It serves as a neutral resource for collaborative problem solving, and is named for William D. Ruckelshaus, director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the Nixon and Reagan administrations.  Founded in 2003 as the Policy Consensus Center, it was renamed in honor of Bill Ruckelshaus in October of 2006.
