Mission
The Mission of the William D. Ruckelshaus Center is to act as a neutral resource for collaborative problem solving in the region. As a joint effort of Washington’s two research universities, the Center’s goals are to:
- provide expertise that improves the availability and quality of voluntary collaborative approaches to multi-party dispute resolution and policy-making;
- enhance the region's capacity for effective policymaking and sustainable problem solving;
- advance teaching and research at the two universities by bringing real-world policy issues to our campuses.
The Center accomplishes its Goals by:
- drawing upon representatives from a wide network of university faculty, state, tribal and local governments, advocacy groups, non-profit organizations, businesses, and others;
- bringing together university research, analysis developed in consultation with community members, and input from our advisory board to find long-term solutions to policy conflicts in Washington State.
The Center is housed jointly at WSU Extension at Washington State University, and at the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.
