Statesperson event 2018On January 16, 2018 the William D. Ruckelshaus Center and the Slade Gorton International Policy Center featured former Washington State Governors Daniel Evans, Christine Gregoire, and Gary Locke, at their fifth annual joint luncheon, entitled Statespersonship from the Governor’s Mansion: A New Role for the States. The discussion, moderated by Renee Radcliff Sinclair of TVW, reflected on their views and personal experiences in governing the state, and how the balance of power and leadership between state governments and the federal government may be changing. Statespersonship in DC: Prospects for Collaboration in 2017

Rucklsehaus Center Statesmanship LuncheonOn November 21, 2016 the Ruckelshaus Center and the Slade Gorton International Policy Centerfeatured US Representatives Suzan DelBene (D-1st), Derek Kilmer (D-6th), and Dan Newhouse (R-4th) at their fourth annual luncheon entitled Statespersonship in DC: Prospects for Collaboration in 2017 Their discussion, moderated by Reneee Radcliffe Sinclair of TVW, reflected on the 2016 election, and offered insight on how individuals can work together on addressing issues in spite of political differences.

This event follows the Centers’ 2015 Statesmanship in the Statehouse Luncheon with Washington state Senators David Frockt (D-46th), Curtis King (R-14th), Linda Evans Parlette (R-12th), and Christine Rolfes (D-23rd), preceded by the 2014  Stateswomanship & Public Policy Luncheon featuring former Washington state Governor Christine Gregoire, former US Attorney (Western District of Washington) Jenny Durkan, Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman, and Chair of JPMorgan Chase NW Phyllis Campbell, and the 2013 Statesmanship Luncheon featuring Bill Ruckelshaus, Slade Gorton, Norm Dicks, and Dan Evans.

Statesmanship in the Statehouse

The Statesmanship.On December 9, 2015 the Ruckelshaus Center and the Slade Gorton International Policy Centerfeatured Washington state Senators David Frockt (D-46th), Curtis King (R-14th), Linda Evans Parlette (R-12th), and Christine Rolfes (D-23rd) at their third annual luncheon entitled Statesmanship in the Statehouse. During this discussion, moderated by Reneee Radcliffe Sinclair of TVW, the Senators discussed their views on leadership and bipartisanship in the Washington State Senate. In addition to sharing their thoughts on the current legislative climate, the panelists also provided examples of successful collaboration despite current polarization in Olympia and Washington D.C.

Stateswomanship & Public Policy

The Stateswomanship groupIn December 2014, the Ruckelshaus Center and the Slade Gorton International Policy Center co-sponsored a luncheon discussion entitled Stateswomanship and Public Policy: Reflections on Collaboration and Leadership. The sold-out event featured an inspiring conversation among accomplished women leaders from the Pacific Northwest. UW Law School Dean Kellye Testy moderated a panel including Christine Gregoire (former Washington state Governor), Jenny Durkan (former US Attorney – Western District of Washington), Kim Wyman (Washington Secretary of State), and Phyllis Campbell (Chair of JP Morgan Chase NW). The panelists offered recommendations for getting the country back to a more collaborative public policy-making process; and shared their personal experiences in attaining leadership positions.
